James Conant is a graduate of the prestigious Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is a 25-year certified golf course superintendent as designated by the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America. Jim is the first CGCS in club history. Jim is a past President and founding member of the New England Regional Turfgrass Foundation. The Foundation, located in Providence, RI is the largest regional turf grass science convention and trade show in the country. The foundation has raised millions of dollars for turf grass research. Jim was chairman of the capital campaign that built the Dr. Joseph Troll Turf Grass Research Center at the University of Massachusetts. Jim was honored to deliver the commencement address for the Stockbridge School of Agriculture’s 79th graduation class at the University of Massachusetts. James was the recipient of the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of New England’s 2020 Distinguished Service Award. The honor was presented at the annual meeting of the GCSANE at the Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel for his leadership and dedication to the Golf Course Superintendent profession. Jim is the only Superintendent to be honored in the history of golf in Berkshire County. A long-time supporter of the community, Jim volunteers at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of the Berkshires and is the chair of the advisory committee for the Horticultural program at Taconic High School. He is currently a member of the Dean’s advisory board for the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and is Chairman of the City of Pittsfield Conservation Commission.
