The beginning of the Country Club of Pittsfield dates back to 1897 when the 230 acre parcel was purchased from the Sarah Morewood estate with the intention to create a nine hole golf course. On August 24th, 1900 the Country Club of Pittsfield was chartered. The Mansion, known to the members as “The Clubhouse”, has seen many prestigious owners and visitors such as Thomas Melville, President John Tyler, General Lafayette, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry Longfellow, just to name a few. . The club, as we know it today, is the home to nearly six hundred members. It offers daily lunch and dinner, al la carte style, prepared by our chef, Jim Lowe. Jim has been with us for over 20 years and has truly developed a unique style in the kitchen. With your meal in mind, he carefully crafts each plate to tempt your taste buds. Jim has seen fads in the dining world come and go over the years, and although he is always ready to try new things, we believe he is a classic.
The Country Club of Pittsfield is not limited to serving its members. We have one of the finest, classic ballrooms available in Berkshire County. Whether you are planning a family function, a wedding, or a get together with long lost friends, the Country Club of Pittsfield can accommodate you and your guests (events can reach over 250 in size). The finely decorated room is, and always will be, the focal point of our clubhouse. Many of our social functions and holiday feasts are served in this grand room. We also offer smaller, more personal rooms for your business and social functions.
Many years later, the membership pursued the need for a more casual dining facility, a place to meet up after 18 holes, or after the perfect win on the court. In 1994, the Grille Room was redesigned and updated to fit the bill. The room offers a warm and inviting fireplace, beautiful bar area, and smaller intimate tables. With the addition of this renovation came new, spacious locker rooms for the men and women.
Wherever you turn, you can feel the tradition. Even in our newer addition, we have tried to keep in line with the ambiance of the houses personality and age.
Our “home” is your home upon membership. We are a unique club in that so many of us are close friends. Many did not come through the door that way; it is just the nature of our membership. Friendly, outgoing and interested are only a few adjectives that could accurately describe our members. You and your family will feel immediately welcome. Our social committee and membership committee offer numerous avenues for you and your family to feel a part. From Family Nights, the Parent/Child golfing tournaments, Sunset cocktails on our North porch, Mother’s Day Brunches, New Year’s Eve Gala’s, etc. Come, and be part of the excitement at The Country Club of Pittsfield.
